EnglishThe English major is the crystallization of emotions--the love of books, the joy in reading and writing, the appreciation for the perfect phrase--into a skilled, practically and vastly rewarding discipline. It is the mentorship of distinguished professors who invite students into new worlds and present them startling challenges. It is the cultural literacy of the sweep of American, British and world Anglophone literatures combined with the analytical prowess of concentrated study of specific works and authors.
To their future employers, English majors represent cultural capital, intellectual acumen and outstanding abilities in oral and written communication. Television, advertising, public relations and environmental activism are only a few of the areas where Ursinus English majors have become professionals. The major is a winning entrée to law school and for the hundreds of Ursinus alumni teaching English in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the Ursinus English major enjoys an outstanding reputation for quality, competence and enthusiasm.
