Moving your student in…All you need to know
We understand that the transition from high school to college is not only a concern for incoming freshman, but for you, as well. As you prepare for your child’s college career, you may find it difficult to decipher what exactly your re-defined role entails. All of us at Ursinus are committed to helping you during this transition and in the years ahead, offering peace of mind when it comes to your student gaining independence and inviting you to nurture your bonds with them through the celebration of special campus events and moments.

Communications about Your Student
FERPA In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (known as the Buckley Amendment), Ursinus College’s policy informs students in the procedures available to provide appropriate access to personal records while protecting their confidentiality. The complete Act is available for inspection in the office of the Registrar.
Student Handbook The Student Handbook is a guide to the policies and procedures that we use to govern ourselves. Information regarding Academic Life, Student Life, and Campus Resources are included. To view the entire Handbook, click here.
Press Release Form This form allows Ursinus College to publicize your student’s accomplishments during time at Ursinus (i.e. Dean’s List, honors, etc). If your student does not fill out this form, Ursinus will not include your student’s name in publications, under the Buckley Amendment. Forms were given out at orientation and will be available on Move-In Day. Additionally, students can pick up a form in College Communications located in Bomberger 104.

What Not to Bring The following items are prohibited from residence halls:
- Wireless Routers
- Electric grills (including George Foreman Grills)
- Flammable substance, flame emitting articles, open coiled/flamed items, or candles
- Halogen lamps
- The use of heat-generating electrical equipment such as electric heaters
- Exterior radio and television aerials (prohibited in, on, or about the residence halls/houses or rooms)
- Firearms, ammunition, fireworks, incendiary or toxic chemicals, explosives, and weapons
- Public signs, dining hall, and laboratory equipment
- Waterbeds and swimming pools of any kind
- Animals, except small fish. (Violations involving animals will include mandatory fines for clean-p costs, currently set to the cost of labor)
- Alcohol is strictly prohibited in the freshman dorms (Beardwood, Paisley, Stauffer, Brodbeck, Wilkinson, Curtis, and the first floor of New Hall)
“Oops…I forgot…” There are a number of stores nearby for those last-minute or forgotten items: Walmart, Lowes, Target, and Home Goods are a few miles from campus. Additionally, we also have a nearby CVS and Redner’s Warehouse Market.
Extra Storage At the end of the spring semester students must remove all personal belongings from their rooms within 24 hours after their last exam or by 5:00 p.m. on the last day of finals; whichever one comes first. For graduating students, personal belongings must be removed by 5:00 p.m. on Commencement Day. There is no on-sight storage available over the summer but there are several local storage facilities in the community.

Book Store
Our Bookstore is located in across from Zack’s next to Lower Wismer Lounge. It will be open Move-In Day. We have new and used books available, as well as Ursinus apparel. Below are the hours:

Student Mail Service
Each new student will be assigned a keyed mailbox and a permanent Mail Stop Code (MSC) number. Returning students keep their previous numbers. A student will also keep his or her mail key for his or her entire time at Ursinus. This key must be returned upon conclusion of one’s time here. Student mailboxes are located in outside of Wismer Hall, adjacent to the patio by the bookstore and the lower entrace to Zack's, and are accessible 24 hours a day. In order to receive incoming mail, the student’s name and MSC # must be on all incoming packages and mail. If a package is sent, your student will receive a yellow slip in his/her mailbox.
The Ursinus Mail Center is located in the Facilities Services Building at the eastern end of the college – off of Fifth Ave, adjacent to the College Arms Apartments. The phone extension is 2483. The Mail Center is open Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:15 PM.

Laptop Initiative
As part of your student’s tuition, all full-time students have been provided with laptop computers and printers for their use while students at Ursinus and will receive them during orientation in August. At the end of their sophomore year, students return the laptop originally provided to them in exchange for another new laptop computer to be used until the completion of their Senior year. The printer may be kept at no additional charge.
There is a Student Technology Resource Room in Myrin Library (Room 316) that can be accessed with special permission. The Tech Support Center on the basement floor of Myrin Library (Room 019) also has a poster printer that is available for students. You can contact them at extension 2244 or via e-mail at techsupport@ursinus.edu.

Banking
It is a good idea for your student to have a checking account while on campus. There are several local banks that are in walking distance of campus as well as a PNC ATM machine located in the lower lounge in Wismer. Fees are assessed for ATM transactions for non-PNC accounts. Bank representatives from several of the banks listed below will be onsite during Move-in Day where representatives can assist your student with his/her banking needs.

Student ID
In order to provide for the identification of individuals in the Ursinus community, students, faculty, and staff are given identification cards. Students should carry these cards at all times as they may be required to access certain College buildings, services, and events (i.e. these cards will be used for meals, obtaining books and materials from the library, use of the gym facilities, and access into certain dorm buildings and classrooms). Students should report a lost or stolen I.D. To obtain a replacement I.D., students must go to the Technical Support Center in Myrin Library, and present some form of photo I.D. with a signature. The cost of the replacement card is $10.

Meal Plans (available to all commuting students, as well) All first-year students are automatically assigned the 19 meal plan for their first academic year. This accounts for breakfast, lunch and dinner on all week days and brunch and dinner on weekend days. Upper classmen are able to change their meal plan each semester before the last day of drop-add. Guest Meals The 19 meal plan includes two guest meals per semester. Your Guest Meals may be used to pay for a guest at The Market Place in Wismer or in Zack’s for any amount up to the Meal Credit amount. Any amount over the Meal Credit amount may be paid using Dining Dollars, Flex Dollars or Cash.
Dietary Needs Dining Services is able to provide for most special dietary requirements. Contact the Dining Service Office for information.
Laundry
Laundry at Ursinus is free of charge! Washers and dryers are provided for students’ use in all of the residence halls and Main Street houses.
Campus Safety
The Campus Safety Office is located in Wismer Hall on the Olin Plaza and provides services and protection for the Ursinus community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Campus safety officers are trained in appropriate areas of security procedures to include emergency response, CPR, AED, First Aid and crisis intervention.
A personal safety escort is available 24 hours a day. Campus members are encouraged to promptly report any crime or unusual or suspicious incidents to the Campus Safety Office.
