Exercise & Sport Science

The major in Exercise & Sport Science (ESS) at Ursinus College can lead to careers in such areas as wellness management, health and physical education, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy and gerontology.  Hands-on pre-professional experience with a science-based liberal arts education is an Ursinus combination that provides the skills that graduate schools and professional employers demand.

Ursinus ESS graduates have the opportunity to gain working, hands-on experience in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, fitness centers, community recreation programs and in school systems.  Select areas of concentration within the ESS Department prepare students for careers in various allied health domains or for teaching health and physical education (K-12), or for employment as a wellness-fitness professional.

Students also have the chance to work closely with senior faculty, coaches and certified athletic trainers.  Individual students' academic programs may be tailored to their chosen career or graduate school path.  In the competitive field of exercise and sport science, students have a distinctive advantage at Ursinus, which is one of the strongest liberal arts programs in the nation in both the physical sciences and the life sciences.
