Emily Benning awarded first prize in Schellhase Ethics Essay Contest

Please join us in congratulating educational studies student, Emily Benning, for winning first prize in the college’s Schellhase Ethics Essay contest. Emily’s essay, “Consent in Conversation: Education of Sexual Violence in Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” was originally written for Professor Skorina’s Censorship and Education course (EDUC-346).

The Schellhase Ethics Essay Prize is awarded in honor of Richard T. Schellhase, an Ursinus alumnus who became an assistant professor of religion at the college during the 1950s and 60s, as well as a philanthropist, clergyman, coach, and beloved mentor to many.

The faculty and staff of the Education Department would like to thank Ursinus alumnus and trustee Will Abele ’61 for making this contest possible.
