You likely know Pottstown native, Chris Wilcox, who has been serving the Ursinus college community as a member of the Campus Safety team since 2003 and as Emergency Management Coordinator since 2017. Not just a friendly face on campus, you might not be surprised that Chris has impressive credentials, but did you know…
He graduated Cum Laude from Montgomery County Community College’s Fire Science, Associates Degree program and holds three certifications from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) culminating in Professional Certification and is also a state-certified firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
And, did you know that Chris is also an avid amateur radio operator. One of his favorite pastimes is going to remote locations to operate the radio and reaching out to the far reaches of the globe. He has communicated with other radio operators, as far away as Russia. Holding an FCC Extra Class Amateur Radio License, Chris donates his time speaking to community groups, teaching the next generation about “Ham Radio” through the non-profit group Education Alliance for Amateur Radio, and has led broadcasts from campus events including 150 Fest in September, 2019.
“My favorite thing about working At Ursinus” Chris says “is meeting wonderful young people and then seeing them progress into successful careers.” To illustrate his point, he gives a recognizable example, saying “One of my favorite meetings occurred in 2003 when I met a student and now have the great fortune to call him a colleague here at Ursinus. “
Chris continues to serve as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in addition to enjoying time with his wife, Jo.
