Peer Recovery Support Specialist (Part-time)

Overview

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist reports to Prevention & Advocacy as part of the Independence Blue Cross Grant to fund Collegiate Recovery Communities in PA. The successful candidate will provide support services to students in recovery and work to decrease the stigma of behavioral health conditions across campus.

This position is grant-funded, and the hours are roughly 15-25+ hours a week for 6+ months with no more than 720 hours throughout the course of the position. The hours are flexible to work with the collegiate recovery program schedule and needs and will include some nights and weekends. The hourly rate is $20 per hour with a max total of $14,400 for the time of the grant which is currently set for January 2023 through June 2023 but will most likely be extended through December 2023.

Responsibilities

There are two main areas of responsibility for this position, each with specific tasks:

  1. Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC):
  • Meet individually with students in recovery to provide personalized coaching and support; refer and connect to additional resources on and off campus
  • Create social, educational, and supportive programming efforts with and for students in recovery to build community including but not limited to weekly support groups, dinners, outings, awareness events, retreats, conferences, and more
  • Be an active member in Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) to learn from other institutions and be able to utilize best practices for CRC creation
  • Create a CRC brochure for admissions, manage the website and social media
  1. Collaborations Across Campus:
  • Assist with the implementation of the Student Wellness and Support Services (SWISS) campus-wide survey; review data and use it to assess and promote the work of the growing CRC
  • Network and build relationships and collaborations that will benefit the CRC
  • Assist with Allies of Recovery Training for campus to help promote ally-ship and reduce stigma
  • Collaborate with Student Engagement staff to promote and implement sober social events on nights and weekends
  • Serve on Community Standards for Alcohol and other Substances (CSAS) Committee, specifically the Recovery-Friendly subgroup

Additionally, the Peer Recovery Support Specialist will:

  • Meet weekly with supervisor
  • Attend various weekly departmental meetings when possible

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification
  • Demonstrated initiative to solve problems and create and implement new ideas or programs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to present to small and large groups
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
