General Counsel

The vice president and general counsel is the college’s chief legal officer and oversees all of the legal affairs of the college.

The Vice President and General Counsel represents Ursinus College as well as its trustees, officers, faculty and staff, all in their official capacities, on various issues impacting the College. The Vice President and General Counsel does not represent College employees or students in their individual capacities. (In some limited cases, the Vice President and General Counsel may be able to refer an individual to an outside legal resource.) The vice president and general counsel reports to the college’s president and board of trustees.

The Vice President and General Counsel stands ready to assist all members of the College community with any legal issues relating to their office or department. Please contact the Vice President and General Counsel at (610) 409-3423 or rclothier@ursinus.edu.

Should you receive any legal document or notice relating to College business (such as a subpoena, a complaint, a hearing notice or any document or notice relating to a legal proceeding), please forward the document to the Vice President and General Counsel immediately.

If a Sheriff or Marshall arrives at your office and asks you to accept legal papers on behalf of the College, please decline to accept the papers and direct the person to the Vice President and General Counsel (and immediately call the Vice President and General Counsel to let it know that someone is arriving and to what matter it pertains).
